WWF-Ukraine is seeking to recruit a Policy Officer to join the Policy and Governance Team.
Mission:
The Policy Officer supports the advancement of good governance in Ukraine and promotes the integration of environmental priorities into national policy, in alignment with the organization's strategic objectives. The role focuses on developing and advocating for green policy solutions that contribute to Ukraine’s environmental sustainability and its integration into the European Union.
Major Functions:
- contribute to achieving WWF-Ukraine's goals of good governance and integration of environmental issues into the political agenda;
- participate in planning, implementing and monitoring the organization's advocacy activities;
- contribute to the development of government programmes and initiatives;
- interact with authorities at the national, regional and municipal levels;
- interact with EU institutions in the context of Ukraine's accession to the Union;
- develop partnerships with government officials, СSOs and other stakeholders;
- represent WWF-Ukraine at conferences, forums and other events on environmental policy issues;
- prepare analytical materials, reports and documents;
- participate in the organization and implementation of fundraising initiatives.
- preparing analytical notes on request.
- proposing and developing own initiatives on green policy;
- observation and analysis of trends with regard to Ukrainian legislation on environmental protection and sustainable development;
- desk research and literature reviews on different policy topics agreed with the line manager;
- identifying fundraising opportunities and developing funding proposals for programmes, funds and public sector companies;
- engaging stakeholders to build trust, constructive dialogue between participants and effective cooperation;
- supporting efforts to engage and mobilise citizens, city stakeholders and civil society to make the planning process inclusive and transparent.
The ideal candidate would have:
- higher education degree in political science, law, public administration, international relations or related fields;
- experience working in the CSOs;
- experience working with government bodies (GR);
- fluency in Ukrainian (spoken and written) and an English level of at least B1;
- an understanding of the principles of sustainable development and environmental policy;
- ability to prepare high-quality analytical materials.
- ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, such as government officials or the scientific community, would be considered an asset.
- ability to participate effectively in interdisciplinary teams, project support, efficient listening skills, ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and external partners, and reliability;
- ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- awareness of the interdisciplinary nature of environmental policy and sustainable development;
- ability to analyse and process qualitative and quantitative data.
- ability to work with large amounts of information;
- alignment and identification with WWF's core values: Courage, Integrity, Respect and Collaboration, as well as appropriate behaviour;
- ability to navigate and thrive in a matrix environment, using cross-functional and cross-national collaboration to enhance overall team effectiveness.
