Wildlife Communications Officer
WWF-Ukraine is seeking to recruit a Wildlife Communication Officer to join the Wildlife team.
Mission
The Communications Officer Wildlife contributes to the organization's mission and strategy by ensuring the effective implementation and initiation of awareness-building activities to maximize WWF's impact in Ukraine, based on the work and achievements of the Wildlife Practice, through contributing to the development and implementation of a communication strategy within the goals of WWF-Ukraine, Wildlife conservation targets and designated projects.
Responsible for promoting the conservation mission and actions to raise the interest and engagement of potential supporters, as well as delivering conservation stories for fundraising and corporate partnerships, when and where
applicable.

Responsible for promoting the conservation mission and actions to raise the interest and engagement of potential supporters, as well as delivering conservation stories for fundraising and corporate partnerships, when and where
applicable.
Major Functions
Wildlife Practice’s communications management:
- Developing and implementating the communication strategy, framework and communication plan of the Wildlife Practice based on WWF-Ukraine’s strategy, conservation targets and projects' activities.
- Ensuring a clear and cohesive message and image of WWF’s Wildlife protection activities in Ukraine.
- Ensuring that communication activities are aligned with conservation, fundraising and policy work and enhancing them, based on the content and results provided by each team (e.g. conservation results, stakeholder surveys).
- Supporting constant flow of information (e.g. articles, news, interviews, presentations, project publications, posts) from the Wildlife practice to own channels (website, social media, newsletters), press and partners.
- Developing concepts and content for communication activities and materials for different target groups, including print and digital (e.g.posters, factsheets, booklets, information boards, expert hubs, reports, etc.).
- Supporting the Conservation team in the creation of conservation work products (reports, brochures, etc.) from a communication point of view (compliance with brand and logo rules and regulations, other guidelines).
- Preparing the communication part of project reporting.
Active involvement in WWF-Ukraine’с communications department work:
- Taking part in the development and implementation of WWF’s organisational communication plan.
- Creating and implementing communication activities that enable effective achievement of the organisation’s goals, and allow to engage stakeholders and the wider public to problem-solving together with WWF.
- Supporting WWF-Ukraine’s communications by developing products such as newsletters, press releases and teasers, major events or communication campaigns (and leading some of them).
- Developing and supporting communications campaigns on the local (mostly Carpathians and Polissya), country, and regional (і CEE) level.
- Maintaining archives, collection of clippings and communication reporting
- Organising and maintaining working files in a systematic way, applying a clear and logical system
- Contributing to the long-term planning culture and integrated way of working with other functions, in particular, Conservation
Media collaboration
- Ensuring and maintaining long-term relationships with local media: through releases, formal and informal meetings, and media trips
- Bearing PR responsibilities, including organising different events and collaborations, conducting needed communication research, on both local and regional level.
Collaboration with communications partners
- Defining and widening the circle of impactful communicational partners from various sectors, including business, state bodies, social groups and communities that can enhance WWF’s wildlife work and goals in Ukraine, incorporating the stakeholder analysis, made jointly by the Conservation and Communications teams.
- Determining the level of communication interaction with partners, based on the organisational and communication strategy of the Wildlife practice.
- Setting up and developing clear and long-term relations.
Working on project proposals and management of the Wildlife practice communication budget
- Contributing to project communication components from the project proposal development stage, together with Conservation and other relevant teams.
- Planning the communications budget together with the Wildlife and Communication Managers
- Managing the Wildlife practice communication budget (tracking, reporting)
Contractor management
- Briefing and control of communication contractors such as advertising agencies, publishing houses etc.
Wildlife practice focal point for WWF-International and WWF-CEE communications team
- Working with international project teams on communication matters, such as adapting global or regional materials for Ukraine, delivering communication outputs for grants, and ensuring alignment of messages with local communication goals.
- Sharing important updates and interesting content with colleagues at WWF-International and WWF-CEE.
Minimum Qualifications
- Adheres to WWF’s mission and Code of Conduct.
- Knowledge and Education: University degree or advanced professional qualification in PR/communication/marketing with at least 3 – 5 years of communication and/or marketing experience. The Communication Officer should have good knowledge of communication, PR and marketing and preferably have an understanding of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development issues, particularly with regard to Ukraine.
- Experience: Proven experience in PR, communication/marketing, partnership development, and public engagement
- Skills and Abilities: Ability to work well with a broad array of individuals from a variety of backgrounds; excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and Ukrainian; proven ability to communicate and promote activities through different channels, including social media; proven ability to develop and implement effective communication campaigns, from planning to execution; very strong computer literacy; skills in the development of visual content would be a plus
