Senior Expert Climate and Energy
WWF is the world largest conservation organization, founded in 1961. We’re active in over 100 countries and have over 8000 employees. WWF Central and Eastern Europe is responsible for leading and to a significant extent implementing WWF’s efforts to preserve, restore and sustainably manage the natural values of the Danube Carpathian ecoregion, which we also call the Green Heart of Europe. With a team of nearly 200 highly specialised professionals, we are working across political borders through an ecoregional approach based on model projects, influencing policy, networking, capacity building, communication, and crisis response.

As part of WWF Central and Eastern Europe, WWF Ukraine has built a solid record on conservation restoration and sustainable management of natural resources with a main focus on forests, freshwater, wildlife, public policy, and engagement. We are currently seeking to recruit an experienced and dedicated professional to join the team in the strategic role of Climate and Energy Expert to managing and implementing climate and energy projects with focus on decarbonisation of energy sector, energy efficiency, biomass, just transition of coal regions climate financing and different activities, while also engaging in such project development and fundraising.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
 

  • Anlyse current environment and policy context, gather the necessary data and develop proposals for the strategic goals and priorities of the organisation for the climat and energy. 
  • Identify and engage the relevant stakeholders at international, national and local level, which WWF-Ukraine should work with the accomplishment of the strategic goals. Plan and implement key collaboration formats and maintan the ongoing working relationships.
  • Manage existing projects in the climate and energy sphere, particulary in the bioenergy sector. Support and manage development, planning and implementation of new multi-partner projects and related activities in the climate and energy.
  • Provide highly professional expertise for the planning and implementation of the organisation's activities related to climate and energy, including: 
  • Review and assesment of the latest science, technical and legal updates related to climate change mitigation and adaptations as well as energy sectoe in Ukraine and globally.
  • Assessment of the scientific and analytical data on climate change impacts in Ukraine and ecological and socio-economic vulnerability to these impacts.
  • Participate in relevant working events and meetings such as conferences, symposiums and governmental and community meetings related to climate and energy.
  • Planning and implementation of multi-partner project and related activities in the climate and energy field.
  • Fulfil different tasks under climate and energy topics if that would be requested.

Working Relationships:
Internal:

  • Report to Forest Programme Manager, dotted line to Conservstion Dorector.
  • Work closely with rest of Conservation team, relevant colleagues from Marketing & ​Communications, Regenerate Ukraine Initiative and Finance & Administrations teams.​
  • Cooperate with relevant project team members in other countries, if applicable.

External:
 

  • Maintain contacts with project partners, subcontractors, external experts, evaluators, NGOs and other stakeholders, involved in the project implementation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowelage and Education:
 

  • University degree in energy, renewable energy, energy efficiency, engineering or other field related to climate and energy.
  • Demonstrated knoweledge and understanding of sustainbility and environmental issues in Ukraine and its regional context, as well as the challenges facing the Ukrainian climate and energy sectors.
  • Knowlege of relevant national and/or preferable EU policies in areas of renewable energy and climate being an asset.

Experience:

 

  • 3-5 years relevant work expierience, and at least 2 years direct experience on climate & energy topics.
  • Experience in policy analysis and engaging with diverse stakeholders such as government officials or the scientific community.
  • Experience in project cycle management and working within diverse teams in an international working environment ia an asset.

Skills and Abilities:
 

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking.
  • Time management skill, and ability to work with multiple deadlines and a clear focus on delivery of results.
  • Excellent communication skills, and capacity to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels.
  • Experience in developing information materials and research.
  • Excellent command of writen and spoken Ukrainian and English.
